About Rainey

Adoption Fee: $450
Newfoundland
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Rainey just turned 2 years old and is a purebred Newfie, we do have his papers but have never registered him. He is a typical Newfie in that he loves water, loves people, and is most content just being near his family. He loves children, due to his size and being generally goofy and clumsy he can easily knock little ones over (however, he does not jump). He is a homebody and refuses to get in a vehicle - it takes several people to get him in to the vehicle for the vet. He hates walks, just doesn't want to leave the property whatsoever. Our vet recommended him getting fixed between 2-2.5, so that is why he is not fixed. He is perfectly house and crate trained. He weighs around 150-160lbs. The not so good: 1. He is picky with what cats he likes- some he is friendly to, others I do believe he would kill if he could get to them. He has got a hold of a couple chickens that have made their way on to our property- so he can not be trusted with poultry. He has grown up with goats, sheep, and llamas and is generally not interested in them (except for baby goats which he hasn't had access too, but shows a concerning hyperness towards when he sees them). 2. I have developed an extreme allergic reaction to him that has slowly gotten worse since we brought him home as a puppy, and it's at the point I am quite sick and can't interact with him. We have been getting him shaved down to cut down on the fur, but he is now developing double coat regrowth issues due to the shaving. He was most recently shaved a week ago, his face and tail still fluffy. He cannot wear a collar, as any pressure around his neck has caused infections from his drool which he ended up needing surgery for last year (we were treating the infection, but he was playing too rough with our other dog and his inflamed skin area tore away from neck up to his ear). He healed nicely, and keeping him shaved in the front and around his neck has helped with the drool not settling around his neck and chest. I have attempted to contact his breeder through FB and email, and neither of my messages have been responded to (the breeder business email bounces back to me as invalid). He is such a sweet boy and has so much potential- I just can't work with him like I want to and he needs to be around people who can love on him and give him the affection he deserves. We are located in Spokane, WA.
