Meet Jefferson !! We recently took in this sweet boy and his adorable siblings from a family that was unable to support feeding and caring for them anymore. He is approx 4 months old and male. He appears to be Pit-bull type mix (judging from mom's photo) and should be medium size when full grown. His mom looked to be about 50 pounds and dad is unknown. He was 7.5 pounds at his last visit. He has already been neutered. He came to us very skinny and full of worms. He is fairly small for his age/breed but may rebound with growth now that the worms are gone and lots of food is always available. He was still skinny in some photos as they were taken throughout his time here. All puppies will get vaccines, dewormed, neutered, and a microchip. Puppies that are already neutered will have a 2-hour adoption radius from Hampton VA, the ones not yet neutered will have a 1 hour radius. Jefferson is adventurous and enjoys the outside. He loves running and playing around with the foster crew. He can also just relax and hang out with you on the couch. He knows his sit command and takes his treats gently. He loves to sit on your lap and stare into your eyes with his cute puppy eyes. Jefferson is almost at the finish line for potty training. He finds his crate comforting and will frequently find him sleeping in there on his own. He does great in his crate at night too. He loves other dogs and love kids. He can be a little shy with new dogs but once he sees they are safe he plays hard. He would love another playful/active dog in the house to play with. He has been fostered with cats and does well. He does his best with potty training but is still very young and has accidents. He has had limited accidents when crated and let out frequently. The older he gets the longer he can hold it and the more he figures out the house holds routine. He has been doing really well with crate training. He has just started leash training but is doing well and seems to like walks. He did great on car rides. He has not had any trouble sharing food treats and toys with humans or other dogs. He loves to explore and play but is also sweet and cuddly. He is a fun, curious and happy puppy. So far he has a medium to high energy level. He will need lots of playtime and both mental and physical exercise every single day. Puppies not given proper exercise can display destructive behaviors and have difficulty with training and manners. How they turn out is largely up to how much effort and time your family puts into them now. He has the potential to be wonderfully trained and well behaved dogs. Adopting a young puppy is a ton of work. They will have lots of potty accidents, chew things up etc. You will need to help them learn things like leash walking, crate training and basic manners. It can be a lot of work but the reward is a dog that fits well into your family's lifestyle if you invest proper time on training with them. Please carefully consider the time and effort a puppy requires before adopting. Vet and home checks required.
