About Virgil

Check with your doctor if your heart doesn't go pitter patter when you look at Virgil. He's super cute and beefy, just a beautiful bully through and through. His attentive eyes have a curious quality, but they also convey sadness. He needs a rescue angel to turn his frown upside down! Virgil is about 7- or 8-years old and currently in the loving hands of Fitchburg Animal Control. He was found as a stray by a Good Samaritan, but has a similar story of dogs in his breed-type. Never claimed, no ID tag, and no microchip. When Virgil arrived at the shelter, he was crabby and didn't like being touched. So off to the vet he went to see what was causing the grumpies. He is now neutered, vaccinated, and on medicine to help his skin. In addition to veterinary care, more time getting to know the shelter staff is brightening his spirits. Virgil now seeks out attention and his knitted eyebrows are relaxing. What resilience! What a foreshadowing of the wonderful companion he was destined to be! Virgil's humor also improved by eating regularly. He just loves to eat! He also loves his Kong and even uses it as a toy to bat around. As a very food-motivated boy, training would help him grow more confident and build a bond with his new person. Without much history, we don't know if Virgil is a match for young children or other pets. Adults or a family with older kids who have no pets in the home is best. A yard would also be nice! To ensure his happily-ever-after, Virgil needs a patient family and a quiet home to finish decompressing. He's already on the right track. Will you take him across the finish line?
