Sammy is a cute and quirky five-year old boy made of chihuahua tenacity and teddy bear magnetism. He has been living out of a suitcase for several months, and more than ready to find a forever home. Sammy is a small dog of 15-pounds, housetrained, neutered, up-to-date on shots, and would be a great addition to a one-person family. He'd love somebody to take him for walks or hang out with him in a fenced-in yard so he can run around. He thrives on comfort, trust, and predictability. His main desire is being the favored pet. He is an undeniable attention hog who loves being the star attraction. He's best as an only pet, but he does live companionably with aloof-type dogs who don't bother with him. Sammy needs somebody who will use patience and understanding with him and his peculiarities. He is quite persnickety. At night, for instance, Sammy likes to be left alone. No goodnight kisses required. For food, he prefers to graze during the day and woe is the person or animal who messes with his bowl. He does not like to be picked up, which is actually good if you have a bad back. He takes his daily 'happy pill' only with peanut butter, though he is not brand-specific (yet). He has a vivid disdain for crates; however, we think this can be changed if he thinks it is his choice. Fortunately, Sammy is a very good communicator. This chi lets you know when his chi is interrupted, aka 'the human screwed up.' Like all of us, he wants to be accepted for who he is. Despite all his quirks, Sammy is adorable, affectionate, and sweet. You can't take his oddball personally, it's just Sammy being Sammy! He really does love his person and affection. Beyond love and understanding, Sammy needs (1) A single person because he gets overwhelmed when surrounded by many people. (2) Medication, which is an inexpensive generic, regulates his mood. Since it does help, he should be kept on it until reevaluated by his new vet. (3) Tolerance for some barking. He does not bark all day, every day, but he can be vocal. (4) Best as an only pet, though a compatible dog will be considered.
