Meet 'Buddy'! He's 4 months old and super excited about finding his forever home! Buddy is currently being fostered near Bend, Oregon, and is one of those border collie puppies that is just too adorable for words. He's not only handsomely marked, but he's smart and active as well. His smooth coat means that he'll be easy to groom and he'll will stay cooler in the hot summer months than his long-haired cousins. He has been chipped and had his full set of vaccinations-including rabies-so he's good to go for a full year. (We also require neutering.) An boy-oh-boy-what a good little puppy he was at the vet's office. He showed not sign of being nervous at all and he did not even flinch at getting his shots. He LOVES, LOVES, LOVES to romp with his housemates and has frequent 'zoomies' around the house while at play. He likes his many toys and has one corner of the living room where he carries his 'stash.' He will chase a Chuck-it Ball with great enthusiasm but has yet to learn that he's supposed to bring it back. Buddy has been around our horses and is not afraid of them, so he's bound to be a great trail-ridin' companion! He has also been exposed to seeing and hearing a vaccuum cleaner, tractor and lawnmower. He likes to go shopping and soaks up all the attention he gets like a sponge. He is very treat-motivated which is a plus when he's under training. Housebreaking is still a work in progress, but he's getting better and better everyday. I can put him outside and he will go pee on command. He runs up and down stairs-even hardwood ones-like a champ. He is often free to roam our 5 acres at will but so far has should no interest in taking off. His recall is excellent!!! Buddy is not a huge fan of riding in our crew cab's rear seat floor area, but he cannot see out at all, so that's not a surprise. He has gotten car sick once which is a very common occurrence in pups this age. He loves to spoon all night long and does not fuss on the bed at all. And while Buddy certainly appreciates a good belly rub and pets, he is not a 'licky' pup. He keeps his tongue to himself. He is being raised around our 'dog-savvy' cat and is learning what her limits are! We expect Buddy to be an 'average-sized' border collie, topping out between 50 and 60 pounds by middle age. His mom was a working dog so he may find herding of interest. He should also do well in agility and similar pursuits. Be advised: This pup will NOT be a couch potato. Expect to run his butt off several times a day if you want him to remain well-mannered. Simply taking him for a walk after work and going camping now and then will not cut it. Teach him to fetch a Chuck-it ball or Frisbee and make him run until he drops. Do that three times a day and he'll probably be a 'good' dog. Ignore his need to expend energy and you will suffer the consequences. A bored, neurotic BC is NO FUN!!! And often very destructive. By middle age he'll start to slow down some and allow you to slack off a bit. Being such an active breed he will not be placed in a small urban yard, apartment or condo. Farms, ranches, large acreages, agility homes, horseback homes, bird control work, search and rescue, and other situations where he can thrive to his best potential will be best for his physical and mental health.
