About Waffles 911

Mountain Cur / Rhodesian Ridgeback
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Meet Waffles: A Gentle Soul Searching for Safety and Love Waffles has been through more pain than any dog should ever know. He's shy, sensitive, and slow to trust - but if you look closely, you'll see it: a flicker of hope in his eyes. He wants to believe. He wants to feel safe. He wants to be loved. Even when he's scared, Waffles will quietly take a treat from your hand. Sometimes, he'll give the softest little lick - his way of saying 'thank you.' And in those small, tender moments, you glimpse the real Waffles: a sweet, gentle soul longing for someone to believe in him. He doesn't need perfection. He needs someone patient. Someone calm. Someone who understands that healing takes time - and that trust is something earned, not demanded. The Spark of Hope When Waffles was pulled from the kill shelter, with minutes to live , we found him a temporary foster. And the transformation was instant. The fear in his eyes softened. He gave kisses. He cuddled in. He came back to life. He showed us just how much love he has to give - once he feels safe. But now, that peace is slipping away. His current foster can no longer keep him because their resident dog isn't accepting Waffles - even though Waffles himself is gentle, respectful, and dog-friendly. And the thought of him going back into the shelter... it's heartbreaking. We've seen what happens to him there. He shuts down. He fades. He disappears into fear. Waffles doesn't belong behind bars. He belongs in a home - a soft, quiet, safe place where he can keep growing and learning that the world doesn't have to hurt. Another Letdown| Waffles was adopted three months ago by a single man. For a little while, it seemed like his story was finally turning around. But just days ago, we got the call: He's returning Waffles by the end of the month. He says he's going away and no one can watch him. He also says Waffles has become anxious and is showing signs of escalating fear-based behavior towards strangers. We are only at the start of addressing this behavior that we did not see in the other foster home, dogs like Waffles need socialization, structure, and a calm environment, something a trainer can help with . That isolating him only deepens his anxiety. We offered a free professional trainer. We reminded him that Waffles thrived in his foster home. He seems willing to start the process but he still wants to return Waffles . And once again poor Waffles is being a abandoned . We need somebody who will be ok with some training and effort . Waffles is well worth it he just needs to be shown . 'Waffles Deserves Better He's come so far. He just needs someone to meet him where he is - and walk with him the rest of the way. * Dog-friendly * Neutered and fully vaccinated * House trained * Sweet, gentle, and eager to trust * Needs a calm, experienced home If Waffles doesn't find a foster or adopter, he will be returned to the shelter - and there, his fate is grim. He already barely survived it once. Watching him break down again would be unbearable. But there's still hope. There's still time. And there's still you. If you can foster, all expenses will be covered - including any medical needs and an excellent trainer . If you're open to adoption - even better. Because Waffles doesn't just need a place to crash. He needs someone to believe he's worth fighting for. Could You Be Waffles' Angel? Please text Kat at 516-457-3678 if you can help. Waffles can be transported to surrounding states. He's waiting. Hoping. Holding on for someone to give him the chance he's just now beginning to believe he deserves. And maybe - just maybe - you've been waiting for him too.
