Courtesy Posting: X URGENT- PORTALES, NEW MEXICO - ADORABLE, YOUNG MALE CHOW MIX 'OSO' IN NEED OF A LOVING, RESPONSIBLE HOME IDEALLY W/ CHOW OR DOG EXPERIENCE- DOG, PEOPLE and KID FRIENDLY. OWNER IS ELDERLY AND UNABLE TO CARE FOR HIM, AND NEEDS PLACEMENT ASAP- SHELTER BOUND WHERE HE WILL LIKELY BE KILLED IN HIGH KILL, FULL SHELTER (please no negative comments, owner is at least asking for help to rehome) Please help us find a loving, responsible home for dear Oso who has lived with his owner where he was born and is now approximately 3 years old. We were told his mother was a cattle dog or mix, and his dad was a red chow, so he is not too large and perfect size. The owner's daughter reached out to us after her father's health deteriorated rapidly in the past year to where he is no longer able to care for himself or his pets. Oso therefore needs placement asap or he will be sent to the shelter who may euthanize him on intake as they are full. The daughter tells us Oso is 'Friendly with people that visit, (including the 5 year old child & school aged children that frequently visits the home). Friendly with other dogs in the home & yard. Lives with 3 small Chihuahuas & an adult heeler mix (his Mother, also fixed.) Has been reported to chase people when he has escaped from his yard; but no biting. Oso has no medical issues that she is aware of. Behavioral issue - high prey drive with cats. (Though he has never hurt the one that lives in the owners home. He has killed strays that come on the property.)' So, sorry, no kitties. Oso has spent most of his life as an outside dog day & night; but has been brought inside for very bad weather. However, we are hoping to find a home who can keep Oso as an indoor pet and can work with him on potty training since there apparently was no need for this before. Fortunately, most chows do potty train easily. Thankfully, a local rescue already assisted with getting him neutered and vaccinated, but some of his vaccinations likely need to be updated which can be arranged. If you are interested in meeting and adopting sweet Oso, or may consider fostering him for a local rescue, please contact: robinmorgan@cox.net or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is assisting with his placement. Chow or dog experience is preferred. While Oso has done well with other dogs, if you have another dog, a meet and greet is strongly recommended.
