About Buck

Adoption Fee: $100
Belgian Malinois / German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

This is Buck, a two-and-a-half-year-old fixed male, half-German Shepherd and half-Belgian Malinois. I adopted him at a year-and-a-half from a young lady, who rescued him at 14 weeks old; based on vet records, I believe he is approximately two-and-three-quarter years old. However, because she was starting college, she could no longer care for him. I have a fair amount of dog training experience. He was quite wild when I got him. On day one, I changed his name to Buck and his command language to German. He responded beautifully and he is now completely off-leash trained. Buck is the most affectionate dog I've ever had. I had to do a 640 mile round trip to adopt him. He rode home with me with no issues. When I got home and sat down on my recliner, he immediately crawled up beside me and fell asleep. He has great situational awareness and comports his behavior to the surrounding environment. You name the environment, and he has most likely experienced it because he is my constant companion. Unfortunately, about three months ago I developed severe heart problems. I can no longer walk any significant distance or drive. Thus, I can't walk him or take him to the dog park which I did most days of the week. Furthermore, I can no longer live on my own, and I now reside with a family whose lease does not allow pets. This is going to be a brutal separation, but it's in his best interests to be with someone who can spend time with him to give him exercise. He is not destructive, and he has adapted to my new physical limitations. If you are a handler and looking for a dog for Schutzhund or French Ring dog, I believe he would be a good Schutzhund candidate, but I have not tested him on the 6.5' French Ring wall. My background is in both sports, but I have only trained him in obedience and NOT in bite-work. I have worked him in backward walking, but not off-leash for that particular skill. I can tell you that I have come nowhere near his potential. My only requirement for adoption is that you are someone or a family looking for a dog to be part of your life in a loving way.
