About Scout

Dutch Shepherd mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Scout Scout is a beautiful 2 yr old Dutch shepherd mix that was part of a litter that was dumped in the desert with their mom when they were only babies. Scout is big dog friendly, smart, goofy, and affectionate. He has not been tested with kids, cats, or smaller dogs. He is very shy at first meeting but will warm up to be the perfect medium energy dog. He loves to just hang out snuggling on the couch with his people, run around the yard with his doggy pals, go on car rides, and play fetch. Scout is absolutely obsessed with tiny, squeaky tennis balls! He loves to play fetch and will even kick around the ball so he can chase it around the house. He has not been tested with any other animals or kids but, given how fearful he is of anything new and that he doesn't have a prey drive, I have no doubt that he would eventually be friendly with any other animals or older kids that know they need to go slow with him. I would not recommend that he be placed with young children or small dogs only because he tends to play a little rough and, once he is feeling comfortable/safe, he might knock down a small child or accidentally hurt a small dog. The outside world is still quite scary to Scout but with a well balanced doggy pal and a confident human that is willing to take it slow, he will eventually gain the confidence to realize the outside world isn't too bad at all. As long as he has a human, a doggy pal, and can chase a tennis ball in the yard he will be perfectly content. Scout is neutered, up to date on his shots, microchipped, crate trained, leash trained and knows basic commands such as 'sit' 'down' and 'stay.' Scout's ideal home would be with a patient human that will give him the time he needs to adjust and already has a well balanced dog to help him feel more comfortable. He needs someone that wants the companionship of a dog but doesn't want to really take him out on walks or on adventures. He prefers to stay at home, hang out, and he loves getting his exercise by chasing a tennis ball in the backyard. I usually sit in a chair with a bucket of tennis balls by my side and will throw them for him and my other foster dogs to chase. He will bring the ball back to me every time, sometimes even placing it directly in my outstretched hand or even back into the bucket.
