About GIDGET

Adoption Fee: $475
Chihuahua
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

*LOCAL ADOPTION ONLY* GIDGET is an 8 month old, 7.4 pound beautiful little Chihuahua who is now available for adoption! She was surrendered by her owner due to various medical conditions. Sweet GIDGET came into rescue as a tiny little 2 pound puppy with a very large open fontanelle (2 fingers wide), hydrocephalus, and cranial sutures that had not fused. She also has a genetically deformed hip that gives her a funny little walk but does not cause her pain or discomfort. She runs, plays and has absolutely no idea she has any issues. When we first posted about GIDGET, it was to do a fundraiser to have an expandable helmet made to protect her open fontanelle. Thanks to many of you, she got her helmet and it worked- even though she's not a fan! At her most recent appointment with our vet, we found that the bones in her skull had fused and there were no longer signs of hydrocephalus. She still has an open fontanelle that has closed somewhat, but is still quite large for a small dog. So, her helmet will go with her to her new home and should be worn as circumstances dictate to protect her little head. GIDGET loves people and snuggles next to anyone who will sit down in her vicinity. Her tail always wags and her disposition is nothing but sweet. She loves to tuck her head in the crook of your arm and she likes to have her head on your shoulder when she is being carried. GIDGET is as sassy as she is sweet and can be very bossy with the other dogs in her foster home. She plays hard and a home with another small playful dog is recommended. She should not go to a home with bigger dogs or more aggressive dogs or any dog that is not going to tolerate a little dog who wants to play a little rough! She can be a bit of a wild child. We have not had her around cats and she should not go to a home with children. GIDGET loves to play with toys and has a habit of dismembering them and taking them outside. Speaking of outside, this girl absolutely loves it. On sunny days she lounges on a big mat and could stay there all day BUT she should not be outside unsupervised. She is getting better with her potty training but still needs work. Consistency will be the key to getting her completely trained. She is not leash trained and a fenced yard is required. GIDGET loves to snuggle under the covers smooshed up next to her foster mom in the big bed. She is crate trained (for safety reasons when she came to us as such a little girl) but would rather sleep with her people. GIDGET has been to the vet for several wellness checks, is up to date on shots, spayed, has been started on heartworm prevention and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. She is local adoption only which is within a 1-hour drive to Pensacola, FL.
