About Thoreau

This handsome gentleman is Thoreau who appears to be a Maine Coon/Domestic Mix as his mom is a calico kitty and his putative dad is a large gray super fluffy none neutered gentleman. Born in June of 2023, is now just over one and a half years old. Like his namesake, this introspective rescue kitty man seeks his very own Walden Pond, a place where he can live peacefully while surrounded by all the beauty of nature. Ideally with one of his siblings, Austen, Bront or Whitman accompanying him. Once a wayward soul searching for food and shelter, dear Thoreau struggled to survive the harshness of his outdoor life, doing his best to avoid the bad humans who sought to taunt and/or hurt him and run him over with their vehicles as he navigated the streets in his quest of a safe space. Thoreau was one of the lucky ones; he found kindness in the form of his feeder who provided food for him, his four siblings, his half-sibling and his mom. Since becoming an indoorser as one of my rescue wards on July 16, 2024, Thoreau has become a contemplative kitty. As he perches on the Frisco condo in the window considering all the goings on outside and within the confines of his bedroom, I can almost see the cogs of his brain processing and taking in the entirety of his surroundings, enjoying the peacefulness he has found. He has an aura of grace and thankfulness about him. While Thoreau does still become overwhelmed at times when he ventures out of his bedroom that house he and his kitty buddies, and cries out in a plaintive kitten voice, but he readily enters a carrier when I place one on the floor in front of him to ground himself and again find his security. There is something so very special about this now big guy boy. His mesmerizing golden eyes draw you in, imploring you to be his friend, his companion. He is by far the most confident and relaxed of his formerly feralish crew. Neutered, rabies and distemper vaccinated, combo tested negative for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus and microchipped, this dear gentleman is in search of a human(s) to call his very own. While he will likely initially be shy in his new home, I am confident that with patience, kind words and tasty meals he will blossom as he has done with me he. He is a big guy boy, long and lean but solid.
