Bear is 7-year-old, neutered, blue heeler/border collie/GSD mix. Vaccines are not current but will be updated and nails professionally trimmed before he is rehomed. He is microchipped. We are located in Puyallup, Washington. He is currently being fostered by a family member who can no longer keep him. Bear is incredibly sweet and always wants to cuddle. He thinks he's a 70 pound lap dog! He LOVES car rides. Bear is very protective of his owners, other dogs in the home, and has some anxiety. New people and dogs take patient introduction until he's comfortable. He can take some warming up to certain people/animals, particularly some males and small(er) dogs and sometimes displays fear aggression around some people and large dogs until he is comfortable with them. As a typical herding breed he will nip at ankles and chase cats, but has never hurt them and has lived with cats and children. I got Bear and his sister from a local rescue when they were a few months old and they lived with me for a few years until the two dogs could no longer be together (due to him becoming overly 'protective' of her). I also live on property that is too large to contain, although he did well with a wireless fence system. I still have his sister so he cannot live with me. My son graciously took in Bear for a few years, but he started to show similar 'protectiveness' with their other dogs which seemed to be exacerbated after my daughter in law became pregnant, particularly with the little dog. The behavior, and with a baby on the way, they felt they could no longer keep Bear. My elderly mom has been fostering Bear for several months as we have been diligently contacting shelters/rescues, posting him on social media, asking friends, spreading the word, with no prospects yet of a new home or foster, but he is too big and strong for her, and we need to find him a home as soon as possible or he will be relinquished to the local humane society. Bear is so loved and has had a great life. This is not a situation where we took on too much or he is unwanted; he just needs the right home/environment to thrive. Bear has had some training - as a puppy and more recently. He is smart and follows basic commands. Ideally, he needs to be the only dog but probably would do ok with a larger dog he is able to connect with. He also should be in a home with a fully fenced yard.
