No children under 10 years old. 3-year-old female Chiweenie, about 12 pounds. This sweet girl came from a dog-hoarding situation, so she has some special emotional needs. She will need someone that is patient as she takes time to adjust in her new home. I kept her in a very controlled environment for the first week because she will immediately bolt when overwhelmed- almost as if she is agoraphobic. She is very content in her crate or on the couch as she gets adjusted. As she warms up, it becomes clear she is incredibly sweet, really wanting love and playtime with other dogs. She is great with other dogs, doesn't even seem to notice my cat, and loves mealtime and treats (who doesn't?) We are working on her leash comfortability; she will try to bolt when she gets scared but is otherwise good. She will chew toys, etc. and do a lot of relief shakes to shrug off her anxiety as she gets comfortable. The thing is, she is the bravest scaredy I've ever met. I think she will make an incredible companion for the right person/family/home. I'm not sure how she is with kids, but I don't think young kids would be a good idea, due to her shyness. She is super gentle, but I think (younger) kids would be a challenge for her to get used to. To request an adoption application, email smidgetrescue@hotmail.com Adoption contract and fee applies. Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Puppies are adopted with a refundable spay/neuter deposit (in addition to the adoption fee) and adopters are required to get their puppy to our vet for their pre-scheduled spay-neuter appointments. You must live within a three-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), so we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
