(Sorry for the picture, he just received a bath) Meet Diego! This teenage delinquent stole my heart 3 years ago.. I went through traumatic loss during the time I got him, and he was my crutch. I got him at 7 month old. He was neglected and terrified of people. He now loves everyone and allows you to do almost anything to him. The bandana he has on was something I gave him during the first week that I got him, as a promise that I would never let anything happen to him'| I may have failed him.. He stands well for the farrier and can be saddled. He's 1000lbs right now. I would highly suggest that he not be ridden until he is 5 years old. He needs more time to develop in his spine. I did test him out, holding onto a tree branch and got slightly on him and he did not panic and let me sit there for a short time. I believe he would make a great riding partner. My heart truly hurts about this. He's the kind of donkey that would walk over to you when you're hurt and offer his neck to you for support when you couldn't get up. He was attacked by a pitbull last year, and I had to sew and mend his ear for a month. His gelding surgery was not a good experience. He suffered infection after infection and bled out a lot during it and had to be on antibiotics for 6 months. He's fine now though. Diego is your typical mammoth jackstock mix. He's late to shedding as he loses his coat in late Oct-Dec. Then gets it right back in January. Everyone who sees him loves him, but he will test your patience, lol. He likes to observe and learn from what's going on around him. So that means if you are reinforcing a fence, do not let him see it! LOL. He has been very good about staying on property even with no fencing, as long as he's there with somebody. He has had a bad experience with horses and try to kill another donkey before. However, I think that was because he was viciously attacked by horses when he was younger. This poor guy has just not had great experiences. He's been attacked by pitbulls, german shepherds and labs. He does not care for short hair dogs, but loves my Collie and grew up with him. Diego has been such a big part of my life in a short time I've had him and I'm not looking for him to disappear out of my life. So you will need to become like family where I can visit every so often. His rehoming fee, not even close to what we've invested, is to attract the right people to him. I can negotiate. Thank you for your time.
