Intake Date: April 2017 ----- Adopted: 10/8/2017 ------ Returned to Rescue 11 February 2025----- DOB: 2/19/2017 ----- Breed: English Springer Spaniel----- Size: 32 lbs ----- Status: owner surrender ----- Compatible with: dogs, cats, children----- Suitable for: home with fenced yard. Ground floor access apartment ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: cerebellar abnormality. ----- Additional Notes: Puppy aka Kira is one of the most special dogs we have ever had in rescue. She came to us originally as a teeny little baby back in 2017. She was born with some abnormalities that made her unable to hunt so she needed a pet only, non working home. Even as a little baby, she displayed an abnormal gait and would shake like a leaf when overstimulated. We had Puppy/Kira evaluated by 3 vets and all said a cerebellar abnormality. Such as cerebellar hypoplasia or cerebellar abiotrophy. Her symptoms are primarily noticed when overstimulated (nervous or excited). Her gait stiffens sometimes locking up completely and causing her to tip over (like a fainting goat) or she stiffens and shakes bopping around like a wind up easer chick toy. She is completely conscious during these episodes and the cure?? A hug. Literally. If you hug her and hold her close, she snaps out of it much quicker and then goes on her way! So precious. Puppy was adopted back in 2017 and her family grew by several animals and children. She also moved to Florida! Unfortunately, a family situation meant that she wasn't getting the care needed and she came back to rescue with another dog in the home adopted from FBS and a third dog adopted from another rescue. Puppy loves everyone and is incredibly sweet. She deserves a calmer home and stability. Once she is comfortable, you may never or very rarely see an episode! That's how good she does in her routine. She loves to swim but has to be watched like a hawk in case she has an episode as she could drown. Kiddie pools with very low water levels are a favorite. She also loves fetch and stealing socks. She is very small and still has a very puppy appearance. She has great recall and sticks close by. Basically, she is a special perfect. Low maintenance and best in a home with minimal to no stairs. I love love love this dog. She deserves only the best. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting, please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Once processed and approved a meet and greet can be scheduled and if a match an adoption can be finalized at that time. FBS standard adoption fee is $175. All residents are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and treated for any known medical needs. Breeds are best guess. Housetraining is not guaranteed but crate training is worked on with all residents. A secure physically fenced yard is prioritized if a yard is present. Temperament cannot be and is not guaranteed.
