About Skye

Great Dane / Saint Bernard
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Skye is 4 years young. I have had her since she was a puppy. She did a 3-week board and train with J&R Kennel to help with crating and walking on leash. When new people come into our home, they need to allow her to come to them on her terms. She will just bark at them but if they are firm with a No, sit or place then she will respond and then just give a little bark here and there to let you know she is still there. We have our company ignore her and if she comes to them not to put their faces near her and this is just me being very cautious. She has never bit anyone or attempted to bite anyone I am just being an extra cautious owner. I have teenagers in my home, and she loves them to death. She has not been around any small children so I don't know how she will act. We have a cat and sometimes she likes to chase him up the stairs and other times she doesn't bother him. She is also in a home with other dogs and doesn't mind them but if they are trying to play with her, she will give them a quick bark and growl. She drools because of her breed and leaves water all over the floor just keep a towel and mop handy. She loves walks, car rides, playing in the sprinkler in the summer's heat, playing or tearing up her toys, playing with a cat laser, sleeping on the couch, laying in the sun, eating chicken, playing in the snow and chasing the birds out of the yard. She does not like the sound of the metal from the dog cage of any similar sound she will run and hide. I think this is because I have dropped the cage panels when I was putting it together. She will come back when the noise is no longer heard. She was spayed at the VCA and had gastropexy done at the same time. She is not fond of getting her nails clipped but will sit for the trainer. She is the best dog ever when you get to know her, and she will lay with you on the couch. I know people will read this and say No because of her hesitation with strangers but if you are firm with her and let them know how not to react to her this will no longer be an issue. Her trainer taught us a lot and she has come so far. I want her to be in a home where she will be loved and well taken care of just like the Princess she is. The reason for rehoming is my living situation has changed, and I can't not take pets with me. This is truly heartbreaking for me to do.
