Courtesy Posting: URGENT- ALBUQUERQUE, NM- Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department- Westside location - ID #A1916766- 1 YR 'PANTERA'- BEAUTIFUL, YOUNG CHOW X GIRL AT RISK IN HIGH INTAKE SHELTER - DOG FRIENDLY AND PLAYFUL HELP!!! PANTERA IS AVAILABLE TO ADOPT, SHELTER IS ASKING FOR HELP DUE TO BEING ALMOST AT CAPACITY. WE ARE THEREFORE DESPERATELY LOOKING FOR A GOOD HOME, OR FOSTER AND RESCUE TO SAVE PANTERA IN TIME. RESCUES NEED FOSTERS TO HELP! Please help us find a loving home for darling Pantera. The shelter just reached out to us to let us know that young Pantera was surrendered together, after her owner reported they did not have time for hjer or her brother who was quickly adopted, leaving Pantera behind. The owner reported both dogs were 'friendly with men, women, and children'. Sadly, they were also kept outside only, nor walked or leash or obedience trained, although the shelter is now working with them on a leash and to feel loved. Both dogs are only about 1 year old and believed to be littermates, and weigh 57 lbs full grown. Not surprisingly, the shelter told us that initially both dogs were shy as many chows can be. However, Pantera is greatly and improving and updated notes the shelter gave us on 3/14 state, 'Pantera is still here and doing well. Her leash walking is improving: she does not walk on a loose leash and still needs lots of training, but at least she can walk on leash without freezing or panicking. When outside she warms up quickly and is very playful and outgoing with both people and dogs. When inside she is more fearful, she does not appear used to being indoors.' Earlier notes state, 'Pantera was very shy in her kennel, but allowed leashing and was able to walk out with ongoing coaxing, and by following Oso. She pancaked multiple times, and several times she need a little push from behind to get moving again.' Thankfully, once in a yard and more comfortable, and they said, 'We were able to walk both dogs to the lobby yard. Once in the yard Pantera quickly relieved herself. She started to show more relaxed movement and body language, running around the yard with tail above spine, relaxed open mouth face, picking up toys and playing with Oso. She was still fearful of people and mostly avoided us, but did start to approach us when we crouched down and coaxed her, and she tolerated some petting. She met another dog at the fence with soft face and body and tail wagging above spine.' The shelter provided us a few short videos showing interactions with people and dogs. Yo9u can also see how playful and happy she is to be in the yard and seems to find comfort in other animals. Pantera has been spayed so she is ready to be adopted and go home the same day. She will also be microchipped, fully vaccinated, and heartworm tested before leaving the shelter. If you are interested in adopting Pantera, there is no need for an appointment, and you may just come down to the Westside location during normal business hours. However, for further information, you are welcome to contact the shelter directly, or if you need further help, or are interested to foster, or foster to adopt, please contact robinmorgan@cox.net or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network asap as we are trying to find fosters we can then refer to a rescue group to save them in time.
