About Bobby

American Shorthair / Domestic Cat
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

First, I have to rehome him because my son and I were evicted and we are homeless but staying with friends, who did not want him there to begin with. He is stuck in my bedroom 24/7 and I don't even know how long we will be welcomed here. Meet Bobby. He was born March 2018. He became my fur baby when I adopted him from a shelter in August of 2018. He was up to date on all his shots as of July 2023. He has been an indoor cat only and not exposed to any other animal since then except for another indoor cat who is up to date on its shots. When he met this cat, it was in the cat's house/territory. The cat was aggressive, Bobby seemed curious, and defensive. They fought for a while but then they established their places. They stopped fighting and cohabit just fine. They even play sometimes but mostly ignore each other. He has never met dogs. He has only lived with me and my teenage/adult son. He is fine with other adults. Regarding children, one time, a 5-year-old girl came to visit for a week, and she was very calm and well-behaved. He was really good with her the entire time. Another time, a 6 yr old girl visited and she was jumping and yelling and he hissed at her. So, it depends on the behavior of the child. Your call. Things Bob likes: To be brushed and pet with the yellow glove.Catnip. He gets mellow. When you crumple a small piece of paper into a ball and throw it. He will chase it. This is a great way to distract him when you need him out the way, for example, changing the sheets. Being where you are, or under the bed, or in a closet, or in the window. He will come when he wants to be pet and when he wants attention. To meow when he is hungry and lead you to his bowl. To jump on you, lie facing you on your chest and head bump you while you pet him. To be scratched in front of his tail, of course. He responds to snapping and calling his name.He does this cute thing where he will lead you by walking in front of you and then plop down on his side. This means he wants you to pet him with your foot. Be extra gentle with him. Things to be aware of: He's not a very cuddly cat. If you pick him up, he wants to get down. He can open doors with latches. Not knobs. May as well keep indoor doors cracked, or he'll drive you nuts trying to get out. Do not attempt to trim his claws. Do not rub him on his belly. (if you're a cat person, this goes without saying.) Be extra gentle.Be aware that if he's lying on the floor and you walk back and forth, sometimes he will attack your legs. If you block him with your leg, he might attack it. Best to block him with a pillow. Sometimes he play-bites lightly, similar to how a dog will mouth your arm. It's not the best feeling, but it seems like he just wants attention. He gets that wild-eyed look in his eyes and swishes his tail. Be warned! If he is sitting facing you, for some reason he does not like it when you reach around his left side. He will bite your hand. Sometimes he still scratches a rug. You have to have something nearby for him to scratch on.If you want him to stop doing something, he responds to clapping hands and 'no!' most of the time. Like most cats, he'll occasionally scratch or bite for no apparent reason. If you're a cat person, this should be no surprise. He pats me with his paw on my face when he wants to wake up. If you don't he'll jump all over you. When I'm sitting at my desk, he stands up and pats me on the arm. Of course, he jumps on it. Food: Temptations poultry treats are his favorite. Dry food - Indoor type. Temptations poultry, Friskies, Purina One and Rachel Ray Wet food - Purina Friskies, Sheba mostly. Pate. Nothing with fish. He won't eat it. Chicken/poultry are his favorite. Feeding schedule: He's a grazer. He nibbles at dry food throughout the day. Morning one half cup dry food. Dinner time (around 5 pm) wet food - half a 5 oz. can or (1) small can/pkg. Bedtime - one half cup dry food. If you're lucky he won't wake you early. He really likes ice in his water. His supplies: Yellow glove to pet him. He LOOOOOVES this! A play wand. Catnip. Black blanket. Litter box with lid. Harness. It is only for transporting him so he doesn't escape. It's not for walking outside. He is afraid of going outside. Purrs and toe beans are free! *Please call or text, emails aren't working on this site.
