About Spruce

Meet Spruce! Spruce is estimated to be around 4 years old and we believe that he's a Pomeranian/Tibetan Spaniel mix based on his looks and hair. Even if we're wrong in our guess, he's 12 lbs of 100% cute! Spruce had a rough start to life in which he spent most of it in a small crate. He had a lot of manners to learn when we first got him but he's come such a long way and has shown us that he's desperate for affection. His best match for a forever home would be a home with a fenced-in yard, other active dogs or no dogs, and a family without small children. Due to his previous trauma, Spruce has what we call the 'spin cycle' when he gets very excited and could accidentally knock down a small toddler or elderly pet so other active pets would be best. Spinning is a common behavior from dogs who spent too much time in a crate. The behavior has improved significantly in foster care but still comes out when he's excited over food or going outside. Spruce's favorite activities are playing with toys and watching every bit of movement in the backyard like leaves falling and squirrels jumping from tree to tree. He very much enjoys spending time outside taking in all the sights which is why we'd really like him to have a fenced yard. His toys are also precious to him and were likely his only form of stimulation in his previous life so at times he can be possessive of them but this is easily managed and he is a great about communicating too. Spruce is the epitome of happy-go-lucky and he is truly a joyful pup that wants nothing more than to snuggle and play. He takes on the energy of the room so if you're watching TV on the couch, he'll just want to sit on your lap and soak in all the affection but the second you're ready to get up, he's ready to party!
