My name is Joey, and I'm a long-time Doberman owner and enthusiast. I have a nearly 3-year-old female Doberman named Camina, who is the fourth Doberman I've had in my lifetime. Unfortunately, due to changes in my living situation and future plans, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to provide her with the environment she needs. Camina has always been a bit skittish around new people and can be protective of certain items like food and specific toys. In my previous home, I was able to manage this with space, structure, and gradual acclimation to new people and pets. However, after moving into an apartment community, it has become much more challenging. Additionally, my girlfriend and I are planning to start a family this year, and I'm concerned about how she might adjust to that change. She can be unpredictable in her reactions to strangers-sometimes barking aggressively or appearing wary of certain individuals. I've been working with her for the past year, keeping her active to help with her anxiety and energy levels, but it seems to be more of a temperament issue. While she has never bitten anyone, she has startled awake and nipped at me once under the sheets and, on one occasion, nipped someone's hand as they walked past us. This unpredictability is a growing concern, especially with a baby on the horizon. It absolutely breaks my heart to have to make this decision, but I am looking for a responsible and experienced home for her or a shelter that can provide her with the care and structure she needs. I am willing to accomodate pretty distant travel to re-home her somewhere good for her.
