About Amber

Adoption Fee: $50
German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Meet Amber! She's a 4-year-old, 60-70 pound female German Shepherd who's a sweet, timid but happy girl who just want to play and be pet. She may be a bit nervous meeting new people, but once she gets to know you, she loves to get all the skritches! She is friendly, smart, and walks well on leash with only a bit of pulling, though will come back to you and sit by your side most of time when you stop walking. She's learning to sit and come. She takes treats very softly, has no observed resource guarding, and responds positively to having her ears, mouth and paws handled. She's not very food motivated, and will graze on her meals over time. Located at the same property as her sister Saba, Amber has had a tough life. Left outside all her life, she spent most of her time in a small enclosure or on a chain. She was abandoned by her previous owner and is in dire need of a new home. She needs a forever family who is willing to give her lots of exercise, attention, and love. Amber is moderately head shy and started out flinching when we'd go to pet her, but after a week of positive interactions this has lessened, and she now recognizes us and is happy to receive affection. However, she much prefers to receive pets under her chin or chest, and has been fine with pets to the back and flank. She will push her head into your hand to show she's looking for some love, and has gotten comfortable enough to roll on her back and ask for belly rubs. She didn't have much opportunity to socialize with dogs other than her sister, and her interactions with cats or small children is unknown, so she would be best served with a home without any other dogs, cats or small children until she's comfortable and ready to be slowly introduced and socialized with supervision. She has been introduced to a couple other dogs at this point through a fence, and she is nervous but very gentle. She may take some time to gain her confidence and learn to trust you, but once you're there, she's ready to be a loving and loyal companion. A backyard with a secure fence that can't be jumped is recommended.
