Chali A736666 Senior 11 Year Old Male Chinook Australian Cattle Dog Mix Needs Rescue By 02/21/25 (Arrived With Befriended Small Senior Chihuahua) Chali is an approximately 11 year old male Chinook Australian Cattle Dog mix that arrived with another dog (Spence / A736667: 11 Year Old Male 8LB Chihuahua) on 2/21/25 after being found by school security abandoned in the Cabrillo High School storage yard. Chali has had noted mobility concerns with reluctancy to walk, which has been a combination of medical ailments and depressed / shut down behavior at shelter. Chali has several ocular conditions(conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, nuclear sclerosis), skin concerns(pyoderma, alopecia, otitis externa), as well as arthritis & severe dental tartar. As a result of the drastic variance between size/weight of Chali & Spence they were loaded by officers separately and housed in opposite locations of shelter property. Recently, to determine the extent of medical concerns Chali was suffering hindering his mobility/desire to walk, staff did allow both dogs to meet again in the yard. Once Chali did get the opportunity to meet Spence there was a obvious change in demeanor and ambulatory range/ability as observed in the included video. Spence also has some moderate age-related medical concerns, but is only considered urgent at this time with no confirmed rescue placement deadline. Due to the extent of Chali's medical ailments and concern for contracting upper respiratory infection or any additional diseases at the shelter being life-threatening, Long Beach Animal Care Services is seeking rescue placement for Chali by end of day Saturday February 22nd 2025. Due to the high indications that both Chali & Spence have spent several years (or more) together, the shelter would be delighted to see both continue their relationship as friends.
