About Little Rex

Adoption Fee: $100NEG
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Rex is a very special Dog, just over 1.5 years old, still overflowing with Puppy Energy, fully grown at 35lbs & Deaf since Birth. Rex has been the Foster in my Pack & since June 2024 & he is the most Loving Cattle Dog I have ever met, he loves to sleep beside you like a Cat & is a lot of Fun but definitely has an Off Button when you relax. Rex is a very Happy Dog, completely Indomitable. Deaf Dogs are easy to train when its One on one, outside of a Pack. He would be not only a Loving Companion for Hiking, etc but could be a fantastic Agility Dog. He loves the Dog Park. I know that if you can give him the Attention he needs, he will repay you with a Lifetime of Love. He loves being in the Car/Truck, he loves going on any & all Adventures, he is the first to jump in my Truck. Rex needs a Home with a enclosed Yard (so he is safe) with an Engaging & Patient Owner. Rex is not an Apartment Dog. He is in Perfect Health, up to date on all his Shots, he will need a Rabies follow up in 2 plus years & I have all his Records. Since I got him, he has been on Symparica Trio for Tick, Flea & Heart Worm Prevention. Have invested well over $1500 in his care, mostly because when I rescued him from the Shelter, I wanted to know all about him & his Health - when he arrived he had a Bladder Infection & I didn't know if his Deafness was treatable or not, I invested this money because it was the Right Thing to do. After 8 months I have two irreconcilable issues with Rex 1. We are on the Open Road most of the month in my Expedition Truck & I have three highly trained/hearing command Cattle Dogs & managing Rex outside with my Dogs is like having 6 dogs, 3 of whom won't listen because they cannot hear. With his Puppy Energy unless he is on a leash, he will run up to every Dog & Person in his field of vision, he thinks everyone was placed on this Planet to be his friend but he hasn't learnt about Cars, its heart stopping when he bolts across roads to meet someone so 90% of the time, he is on a Leash. 2. When we visit my Girlfriend, unless we are mindful of the dynamics, Rex is bullied by my Girlfriend's 60lb plus Dog & this can be an Emergency to separate them but with my other Dogs, he is fine. The problem is not Rex but my Girlfriend's Jealous Dog, on his Territory. Rex arrived Ball Obsessed & was in a San Diego Shelter from 3 months to 12 months (he was given to the Shelter for Euthanasia at 3 months because he was Deaf after being with a family for just 4 weeks & in the 9 month period at the Shelter he was adopted & returned 5 times, no-one kept him for more than 72 hours but then again no-one at the Shelter explained to me or the previous Adopters that he was Deaf but I knew it within the first minute) & left with just a Ball in his Kennel. He will spend all day catching & returning anything you throw him. All Day, Non Stop if you encourage him. I have had him by my side 24/7 much to the dismay of my Pack. This level of attention to the Non Alpha has become problematic for the Pack & it's why he needs a One Owner/Family & to be the Only Dog because he demands your Attention. He always rides Shotgun with me & sleeps resting with his Head & Nose in my neck & shoulder. Because he is always by my side, when separated he has a moment or two of Separation Anxiety but then self soothes. I am very reluctant to let him go, they were going to euthanize him that day & I thought he would fit in but he doesn't simply because the difference in Control with my Dogs is so huge. I like to have my Dogs off leash, most of the time & that is difficult with Rex because anyone he sees, Dogs or Humans, he will run after regardless of Cars, etc. He loves other Dogs, he loves People & he loves Kids. He loves physical contact & to be close to you when relaxing, his Superpower is the way he showers you in Attention & Physical Affection. I have owned & trained hundreds of Cattle Dogs growing up on the farm in NZ & have owned many here in the USA, I can promise Rex will be the best Dog you have ever owned, I am also open to a Slow Transition, after all he is part of my Family & I want him to go to the very best home. Thank you for getting this far, I have shared with you every Single Negative & just some of his Positives, he is the most Amazing Being but needs to be the Center of someone's Full Attention, not a Pack. If you need more photos, I have hundreds.
