OLIVER, #A2146441 Video: https://www.facebook.com/reel/3489000961394002/?fs=e&mibextid=wwXIfr&fs=e Meet 5 year old neutered OLIVER. What a treat! A fellow volunteer said he was friendly so I entered the big yard that he was in to meet him and take some photos. He was well-behaved - gave me space when I motioned for him to stay while I entered through the gate. I was carrying a bag of Valentines Day swag and I put it on a chair. Understandably, OLIVER politely helped himself to one of a batch of three chocolate-covered strawberry squeaky toys and continued to spend the next ten minutes enjoying that toy, entertaining himself with it. Right before I entered his yard, OLIVER jumped into the pool and splashed around a bit, putting his face underwater numerous times, unclear if he was bathing, drinking or playing. His notes indicate that his owner surrendered him after being frustrated that OLIVER was 'leash reactive' and could be 'aggressive towards other dogs.' The limited notes do not indicate if the previous owner consulted any trainers or worked on these behaviors'| both traits which can be improved upon, especially when working with a professional. But not all humans want to put in the effort required to help socialize a dog who has not been properly socialized. The dog trainers at the shelter confirm that Oliver can 'come in hot but settles down.' Perhaps he needs more pack walks or playtime with other dogs to learn how to better relate to them, especially if he did not learn this skill earlier in his life. OLIVER did sit on command when I asked and allowed me to dress him in a bow toe. OLIVER really seems like a wonderful pleasant boy'| great temperament, able to entertain himself endlessly and immediately friendly and trusting of me, a stranger to him. I can't wait to spend time with him again soon! If you would like to meet OLIVER, please come to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter, located at 11361 West Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90064. The shelter is open six days a week, closed on Mondays and all major U.S. holidays.
