About Gracie

Looking for a special person or family to adopt a special dog. Gracie is a beautiful foxhound mix, 34 lbs and estimated 2 years old. She is a lovebug that wants to bond tightly with her favorite companion. The right person would be experienced and calm, and also at home a lot to give Gracie a secure foundation. I helped a young couple rescue Gracie from a bad situation where she was chained outside and neglected. She was infested with fleas, had severe ear infections, an infected anal gland, and worms (not heartworms though). They lived in a place where they couldn't keep her. I took her in to set her up for success and all medical issues have been resolved. She is not spayed yet but that is next. She has had all shots now. She is healthy and shiny and has bright clear eyes. She has a sweet and gentle temperament but needs to be treated somewhat like a puppy because she didn't get trained or socialized in her early life. She is progressing well with potty training but needs to be supervised until she's 100 percent. She happily sleeps in a crate with cuddly blankets and I crate her when I leave, but I'm home most of the time. She likes to snuggle with my male dog and with adults. She seems to like older kids but I wouldn't try her with small children. She's learning to navigate a whole new world as it is: she rides well in the car, secured with a harness. She's learning to walk well on the leash which is new to her also. It's important to have a fenced yard as her great joy is to sniff and follow scents. She's pretty mellow in the house and likes to relax and cuddle. She shows some fear aggression when she meets other dogs, but that is improving as she gains confidence and feels safe. She is learning recall and simple commands. She will blossom into her full potential with love and positive reinforcement! She's ready to connect with her special person or family to complete your pack.
