About Blue

Meet Blue, an 8 year old mini Australian shepherd who weighs in at 50 pounds with two blue eyes (which inspired his name!). Blue was purchased for $600 as a puppy from a reputable rural breeder and has been raised in a loving home with another dog and small children. He is a loyal, sweet, and friendly boy. With his current brother Sage (also up for rehoming), he enjoys running around the yard playing fetch, chewing on bones, and especially going on walks. He's always longing to be close to his humans (including small children) and preferably being petted. He's great with children (we have small children who are often poking, prodding, and attempting to yank him around) - but with any dog, we'd advise supervision with smaller children, as he can still become irritated (like any person or dog). We imagine he'd do great with older children. He does live with one other dog (our dog, Sage; 6 year old toy Aussie) and enjoys his companionship, but we're not entirely sure how he'd do with other dogs. Some he's met, he really enjoys; others he could go without. Ideally, he'd be rehomed with our other toy Aussie, Sage - they're established buddies already. Our family doesn't have cats, but based on the cats that wander through our yard, he'd probably prefer a home without cats as he enjoys chasing them. Blue can be somewhat vocal at times, so an apartment or townhome sharing walls with others would not be ideal. Preferably, he'd be rehomed somewhere with a large, enclosed yard. He's bred to herd animals; that'd be a huge plus for him if he could do this! He is housebroken and can go for fairly long stretches (~6-7 hours) without being let out. He knows several tricks (sit, speak, shake, beg, crawl, dance, jump) and delights in having training sessions with treats. He trained to go into his enclosed pen whenever we leave ('Go to bed Blue' is the command that he listens to). He sleeps quietly through the night. He's not up to date on vaccines, but we would ensure he was before being rehomed. He's in great health and has had no health issues. He does well riding in the car and has never gotten car-sick as do some other dogs. Please fill out an application if you are interested. He's currently located in Akron, OH.
