About Charlie

'Lookin' for love in all the wrong places' ends now. The answer to your prayer is Charlie, a 4- year-old Norwegian Elkhound! Since being in the shelter, Charlie has opened up. He jumps up and down and wags his tail when he sees the officer who is caring for him. He gives her kisses, sits in her lap for pets, and rolls over for belly rubs. To understand why such a nice dog lost his home, let's go back four years when Charlie was irresponsibly sold to octogenarians. Though well-meaning, Charlie was never trained, socialized, or given boundaries. He is just plain confused about what to do with himself. The right person can reboot this very eager dog, who seems to just want to enjoy life. Charlie will thrive with a good routine, training for basic cues and gentlemanly manners, and exercise for both body and mind. His former owners describe him as a loving dog with no signs of aggression, though they feel he was protective of the 'mom'. Unfortunately, Charlie was always too much for the couple, making problems inevitable. While taking Charlie outdoors on a leash, the 'dad' suddenly fell. This startled Charlie and out of character he bit the owner. Incidents happen and this one shouldn't cost him his life. Charlie needs someone who has prior experience with Elkies or similar large dogs willing to be patient and work with him to overcome his current behavioral challenges from a lack of training. He is quite a jumper! A supporting rescue may be able to assist with training costs. No children, no small pets, and not a household where people are in and out often. A compatible resident dog may be possible, especially if the owner is well-versed in Elkie handling. He does show interest in the other kennel dogs. Charlie is house-trained and UTD. Adopters will receive a voucher to have him neutered at no cost. Charlie has no other options. An adoption must happen soon. Please help or please share.
