This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only. Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. In November I picked up a stray Great Pyrenees mix in the middle of the road near Dayton at a notorious dog dumping site near my barn. Flyers were put up but he was thin and not microchipped and no one came forward. I have been taking care of him since then but I already have two other big rescue dogs and a cat in a small home in there city, it is too chaotic and not good for any of the dogs. The dog, who we call Charleston/Charlie is sweet but untrained. He is about a year old. I got him all his vaccinations and he in good health and is heartworm free. I helped him gain weight and also had him neutered a month ago. He does growl and try to bite when resource guarding like if you try to take a toy or bone from him and he play- fights with my other dogs. But he's not an aggressive or bad dog at all. He just needs training. I never intended to keep another dog long term. Nobody I know is interested in adopting him and with his resource guarding issue I am afraid BARC would not give him a chance. He is great with cats and people even children. I want the best for him and think he'd make a good dog. He is truly adorable and I think if he were in a home with fewer big dogs or with a huge yard or regular walking/daycare, he'd be perfect. We are willing to foster until permanent owner is found. He definitely needs training and lots of exercise and we are just swamped with our responsibilities and other many animals. Here are pictures of him. He is very beautiful and sweet. We are just saturated with animals and responsibilities and didn't expect he'd still be in our home for months. Needs an owner with tall fenced backyard preferably experienced with great pyrs/herding animals. Needs someone willing to pay/commit to training. Needs someone willing to work around his instinct's resource guarding and direct children to understand this (for example do not try to grab a bone from his mouth. He will growl and bite. Training can help but this might not change.) Must be willing to keep current with vet care.
