Willow is a gorgeous, friendly, energetic, young (~1 year, give or take a couple of months) and whip-smart Aussie X. (Our guess is 3/4 Australian Shepherd, 1/3 Golden Retriever.) She loves people and attention, and will play fetch all day long (though she would like to be chased to get the ball or frisbee back.) Willow was dumped at a shelter--her owner just left, so her early history is unknown. Her adopters lived in an apartment and worked full days, leaving Miss Willow in a crate--which is how I ended up with her. She can be a little shy initially, but warms up quickly. She is and wants to be a very good girl! There are some adoption boundaries for Willow because of her size and high energy level. -She absolutely cannot be placed in a house with children under 12. She doesn't understand that she can't jump on them to play as she would with an adult or other large dogs. -She absolutely cannot be placed in a home with small dogs or cats. Willow plays *hard* and is not sure if small dogs and cats are playmates or prey. -She would absolutely kill chickens. -She does enjoy playing with other dogs her size, but caution would be needed. Willow plays hard and wants to be dominant. -Willow needs a home with someone with experience with herding breeds. She is brilliantly smart--and needs someone who can handle that intelligence. -Willow needs a home with a big, fenced yard to play in and an active person who can and will spend time to work and play with her. She needs *hours* of exercise in order to thrive. **Vet references will be checked to make sure her adopter meets the criteria. We want her to be where she can love and be loved for the good girl she is.** Willow is housetrained but needs frequent opportunities to go outside during the day. (It took us a little while to get this right as she does not signal when she needs to go out.) She can sleep through the night in a crate without nighttime visits outside, but still needs work if not crated. She is not picky about food (we feed high-quality dry food with a fresh topper), and is not food aggressive at all with people. She does not tolerate other dogs nosing into her food, so needs to be fed at a distance (we do ~8 feet) from other dogs being fed at the same time. Willow was adopted out by the Richmond SPCA which means she qualifies to be seen by their reasonably priced, excellent doctors for life! Accordingly, a $150 adoption fee, to be paid to Richmond SPCA, is required (non-negotiable except to breed specific rescues.) Adopter will also be asked to agree that, in the event that they must re-home Willow, she will either be returned to the Richmond SPCA or to us, unless turned over to a reputable breed-specific rescue. Willow is a rare gem of a dog. So smart, so beautiful, so loving. She will be someone's soul dog. Will it be you?
