About Bentley

**LOCAL ADOPTION ONLY** BENTLEY is a 4-year-old, 9.9 pound Maltese who was owner surrendered last year. He came into rescue scared and unsocialized but he has come very far since then! BENTLEY has some funny reactions to certain people. We are not sure if it's because of experiences in his past or not, but he does best with smaller women who talk baby talk to him. Honest to goodness. We have no idea why but we are going to include this information because it's important to him! BENTLEY is a good dog with a lot of wonderful qualities although he is still nervous when someone tries to pick him up. He would rather come to you on his own terms, but he needs somebody to work with him. He should not have an owner who will just let him do what he wants. He needs to know that he can trust a person and he will gain confidence from an owner who will give him clear direction and help him learn to be more comfortable being picked up and petted. His adopter needs to be patient with him. It takes a bit for him to warm up to some people and he seems to like women over men. BENTLEY likes to play with his foster mom and absolutely loves belly rubs, head rubs, scratches and being with his person. If you bring him home, be ready to have a fluffy white furball following you everywhere. He's quite nosy! BENTLEY can be nervous with strangers and barks when people came to the door but he greets his foster parents with complete and utter joy and happiness. He has been around older kids and was good with them with a proper introduction. With his history we do not think a home with children around all the time is ideal though. BENTLEY is good with other small dogs and enjoys their company. He has good energy and plays and does zoomies in the yard with them. We would love for him to have a playmate. He has not been tested with cats. BENTLEY does not walk well on a leash. He is pee pad trained with only an occasional accident. He does pretty well on car rides but is a little nervous. A fence is a must because of his wanting to play and run and because he is uncertain around strangers. If he slipped his collar or harness it would not be easy to recover him. At night, BENTLEY sleeps on the big bed curled up on his foster mom. He has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration.
