My name is Stephanie, and I'm writing you this morning with a heavy heart, because I could really use your help in rehoming the sweetest aussie girl I've ever known. Here's the situation: my sweet girl Koda was abandoned in a ditch in Maricopa when she was only three or four weeks old, and the person who found her couldn't keep her, so my sister volunteered to take her. However, my sister already had five dogs when Koda arrived (she's a bit of a rescuer herself), and she was very overwhelmed, so I offered to help. Fast forward a year and a half later, and Koda has been one of the best additions to our family of three other dogs - until this week. Koda has always been extremely high energy and overly protective of her family, which I could mostly control by making sure she was put up if visitors were coming over because she does have a pretty loud bark and growls towards certain people. She's also the most loving towards kids (except when she wants to herd them ), and that's saying something because our house is the kid house and we have five or six kids coming in and out of the house multiple times a day'| I want to herd them sometimes, too. lol. But this week, things got really complicated, and I have a very real need to re-home her, despite how much my family loves her, and I am of the opinion that it's not her fault that this happened. With my female dogs, I've always let them have two or three periods before I get them spayed to allow them to have strong bones and be hormonally regulated, and that's never been an issue before. However, Koda was just finishing her third period this week, and my husky was mounting her successfully quite a bit, which left my chiweenie feeling very left out and sexually frustrated (both males are fixed). He kept humping and sniffing her, especially after the husky would mount, and the tensions between the chiweenie and her kept growing. All she was doing was checking him with attitude if he got to be too much, and since me and my husband were around when it would happen, nothing ever escalated, and it never had before. However, on Tuesday afternoon, when my husband and I were at work and my daughter and niece were home with the dogs playing outside on the jumpoline, Koda and the chiweenie (Goliath) got into a real fight, the first any of us have ever experienced, and Koda hurt him pretty badly. We've had to keep Goliath separated since the incident because of the injury he sustained, and at this point, the negative energy between them is only getting more significant. She's still fine with the husky and my Labrador, but things do not seem ok with her and Goliath (he is terrified of her) and my daughter is always scared now, because she was the one who had to break up the fight, along with my niece. My heart is broken to even have to consider losing a loved one like this. But Koda deserves to be in a home where other animals and her owners aren't scared of her, and I just don't see a world where we can undo what's been done. And for now, she's so secluded from the others because of the energy in the room, I fear her quality of life is diminishing quickly.
