I adopted Merry 4 years ago and am her 4th family. I am currently sharing a house with a couple and Merry isn't getting along with their dog. I adopted Merry from a family who rescued her from an abusive man. She is a very loving, protective, territorial, and willful dog. She has a hard time trusting men but very good with women. Merry is beginning to show signs of arthritis in her hips, has bad teeth, and is on medication for hypothyroidism. Merry has been on numerous pharmaceuticals for anxiety in the past. Nothing has helped her except giving her outdoor physical and mental exercise or indoor sniffing activities and games. She does not play fetch but will catch. She loves learning and taking agility class. She is very obedient and eager to please. She is a natural working dog and always on alert. She is stressed by loud noises, beeps, car alarms, fireworks, thunder, fire alarms, groups of people, and men's voices. She would do well in a quiet home with a big yard or property. She needs to have her human with her all day and is very stressed if left alone. She has a lot of trauma and needs someone kind, compassionate, loving, and who has a heightened awareness of her needs. She has very good house manners and has been trained well. She is not a cuddly dog and needs to have her personal space respected. If she wants attention she will come to you. She does enjoy frequent pets on her back. I take her to get groomed about every 8 weeks. I keep her hair on the shorter side because she doesn't like to be combed regularly.
