Minnie is a hound dog mix and is about 2.5 years old. Pros: She's as sweet as apple pie! Loving and playful, she is always happy. She never meets a stranger but is protective of her home and will alert when something is different. She knows all her basic commands. Minnie is dog and cat friendly. Boundaries do have to be set with how much she can play with a cat but she will be forever friends with all things furry. Cons: Minnie is stubborn. She needs firm boundaries that get reinforced often. She is a hound dog and her bray/bark can get loud. She loves and NEEDS to dig. We were able to train her where she can and cannot dig but she will need a spot to let it loose! Minnie follows one of our chickens around and will nip at it. She has NEVER harmed the chicken but she will not stop following it. Medical: Minnie has hip dysplasia. We were advised at her last vet visit to put her on a high quality joint supplement. It will be lifelong. She periodically needs pain medication for it. She must have daily exercise to keep her muscles strong. She cannot be overweight or it will hurt her. Surgury for her ball joints is not an option. Exercise is the method of management. She cannot be physically disciplined because a spanking could hurt her. When she reaches old age, she may need a wheelchair for mobility. She cannot be crated extensively. Too much laying in one spot for long periods of time aggravate her hips. More pros: Minnie is extremely loyal and once she bonds, she bonds for life. She always tries to please. She has the best smiles and will make you laugh daily with her antics. Minnie's perfect person will be active and take her for daily walks. Someone who works at home or who could take her with them would be great. Someone who is financial stable, willing and able to take on Minnie's financial responsibility is a must. Someone who is gentle and more comfortable with positive reinforcement rather than physical reinforcement is a must. Minnie's person must be dog knowledgeable, preferably knowledgeable about hound dogs and their specific needs and tendencies. Minnie is good with kids and all animals. She is good off and on leash.
