Courtesy Posting: HEALDSBURG/SONOMA COUNTY (WINE COUNTRY), N CALIFORNIA- 2 YR AFFECTIONATE FEMALE 40 LB CHOW X 'SONOMA' IN NEED OF A LOVING, FOREVER HOME AFTER BEING SAVED FROM A SHELTER WHERE SHE WAS FACING EUTHANASIA. OWNER UNFORTUNATELY CANNOT KEEP DUE TO NOT GETTING ALONG W OLDER DOG IN HOME (please no negative comments, owner is at least asking for help to rehome). Please help us find a loving, forever home for this beautiful girl fondly named Sonoma who is perfectly sized at only 40 lbs. She is estimated to be just over 2 years old and was saved from a So Cal shelter last year after the current owner saw her post who has a similar looking chow mix of the opposite sex. While Sonoma (then Sheba) did fine at the shelter with other dogs, unfortunately, the two dogs in the home together simply do not get along. However, her current owner has many great things to say about her as follows: 'Sonoma is very affectionate with her family. She is very attached to us and wants to go everywhere and do everything with her people! Her favorite thing is to stand crosswise in front of you, looking up batting her beautiful brown eyes to ask for pets. She is very communicative and will politely let you know with a gentle snoot boop when it is time for a meal, walk, or just some attention. She loves walks and outdoor time. We took her hiking near Mt. Shasta this spring and she relished the snowy mountain environs. Sonoma is a good chewer and loves hard chew toys designed for aggressive chewers. She had only gotten into a few shoelaces and socks that we accidentally left out - our fault, really. Otherwise she has been non-destructive. Once she makes room for you in her heart, Sonoma is a total sweetheart. We absolutely love Sonoma and deciding to rehome her is a painful decision, but we feel it is necessary for both our dogs' well being.' While Sonoma seems to be fine outside a home with other dogs, inside a home, she seems to get competitive with their other dog over both attention and food. Therefore, we feel Sonoma is best as an only dog, adults only recommended. The owner did seek training in hopes the two dogs could get along. The owner also had the trainer also work with her on meeting new people, although she may benefit from additional training as she can be somewhat defensive as can be typical of her breeds. However, 'her trainers remark how much they enjoy having her every time!' Sonoma lives as an indoor dog, and is already spayed and current on her vaccinations. If you are interested in meeting and adopting this sweet red beauty, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is assisting the owner with her placement. Chow or dog experience is preferred. Sorry, we do not do transport to private homes unless a rescue is involved due to risks of a home or dog not working out for any reason. All adopters will be asked for a home check (which may be virtual), an application, a vet reference and an adoption contract.
