Rory is a 1.5 year old, approximately 35 lb heeler (Australian cattle dog) located in Aurora, OR. She is a lively and adorable bundle of love, joy, and devotion with loads of personality and she will melt your heart instantly. She belongs in the category of 'Velcro dog' and immediately bonded to her foster mom and dad. She wants to be as close as possible to her people, but she is also fine being alone, and is content to hang out on the front porch for the afternoon while her foster mom gets some work done. She is housetrained and crates easily and quietly. In fact, she is quiet in general for a heeler and I've only heard her bark when she plays with other dogs, which she loves. She gets along very well with the 2 bossy female dogs in the household. She's working on her basic commands and has a great recall (not that you really ever have to call her back since she is already right there!). She still needs some polish on her manners, including leash-walking, and practice with impulse control. She knows she shouldn't jump up on people or crawl into their laps and tries very hard to control herself but she just can't help it. She is always very excited to see you! Rory is currently staying at a 25-acre farm. She does great off-leash and mostly ignores the livestock, including chickens. She would chase the barn cats if given the chance, but can easily be deterred. She doesn't seem to have a high prey drive, she really only has eyes for her person and she literally will fall all over herself to please you. She is very active and will require a good daily dose of exercise with opportunities to romp off-leash and structured training sessions to engage her mind. She'd be an A-1 agility partner, trick dog, hiking or jogging buddy. She does settle down nicely once she's had some fun and will snuggle with you all night long. She absolutely loves belly rubs. Little is known about Rory's background including her history with children; she should meet any children in the family prior to adoption. Given her excitability, breed, and tendency to jump up and nibble at your hands when excited, she would not be compatible with children under 6 years old. However, with training and proper supervision, she may do well with older kids that can be involved in enforcing good behavior. Rory is spayed, up to date on vaccines and has a microchip. She's in Aurora, OR and her adoption fee is $400.
