This gorgeous blue merle Jasper is a love bug. He is a 3 year old Australian Shepherd. He is 63lbs, neutered, up to date on vaccines and preventives, as well as crate trained and housebroken. He does well with other dogs and tolerates cats, although he will chase them when he is outside. He walks well on a leash, and has done well jogging on leash, only pulling or barking when he gets over excited. He is a total goofball who is always making his foster mom laugh. Jasper constantly wants to be at your side. He will follow you around the house, and only wants to go outside if you are joining him in the yard too. If he is left outside alone, he will dig in the yard. Jasper loves car rides and doesn't mind a bath, brush or nails clipped to help clean up after a long hike or walk. Jasper is very smart, and has a ton of energy, and I mean lots! He will try to turn anything into a game. His favorite game is tug, but he can get over excited and nip fingers with enough force to scratch skin, so we think he would do better in a family with no children or children older than 12. While he has never had an issue meeting people at the store or park, on leash he has tried to nip at strangers who come in the front door of the house. Although, we have been working on this and he is doing much better especially when the person entering isn't a stranger. Jasper has shown some food aggression towards other dogs. He has no problem with humans taking food or treats away, and he has been fine with sharing small treats with other dogs during training or even sharing spilled popcorn on the ground. However, he is not good at sharing bones/dog food and has nipped other dogs when they approach. Again, this is something the foster has been working on. As long as he gets exercise and playtime Jasper settles right down at night, and will let you sleep in through the morning, only getting up when you get up. He rarely barks in the house or in his crate, but will bark when he is outside playing or when someone walks by the front of the house. Jasper has great recall and will return to his foster when called, or even when his leash gets accidentally tangled by his foster mom. Streets that are busy with passing cars make him stressed, and he barks or shows interest in chasing cars instead of avoiding them. Finally, If you like a dog who gives great kisses, and loves belly rubs (although he doesn't stay still long enough to do a lot of cuddling) Jasper is the dog for you! Jasper would do best with a single active person, couple, or family with older children. He will need someone willing to continue his training that the foster has started, Experience working with an aussie or other herding dog is a plus. He would love a fenced yard to play and romp, and get the exercise he so needs.
