About Bear

Adoption Fee: $400.00
Yorkie mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

BEAR is a gorgeous 2-year-old, 14.8 pound Yorkie mix. He has a strong and assertive personality and needs the right adopter and the right environment to live his best life! He needs a human that will set firm and consistent boundaries and let him know he's loved. BEAR was recently moved to a new foster home that has less activity and he is doing fabulously well. He knows he's welcome and loved and is provided guidance and correction when necessary, but is never physically reprimanded. He trusts his foster mom and he is thriving! Bear's biggest issue is belonging and trusting. BEAR is a loving, sweet boy who will shower you with lots of kisses and always be right there with you. When he's excited he will let you know with tail wags, bounces and zoomies or gruff play growling and 'mouthing'. He likes to jump on your lap to be loved on and will hug you around your neck while giving kisses. He naps in a dog bed in his foster mom's office while she works from home, but follows when she leaves the room. He likes toys, treats and playing with his person. BEAR is high energy and likes to play'| a lot! He would be best in a home with a dog buddy who is a good match for his rough play. He has a foster sibling who it's the same age and size and has a similar personality. They have fierce vocal wrestling matches and joyfully run laps around the back yard together. But he is intimidated by bigger dogs and will bark at them. He should not go to a home with cats. Children would not be a good match for him either. Sometimes he shows jealousy toward the other dogs in the home when it comes to attention, but he is immediately corrected and responds well. BEAR knows how to use a dog door and with a good schedule, he does well with his house breaking. He will probably mark in a new home at first but with a lot of positive reinforcement and a good routine he will be good. He needs a home with a fenced yard. At night, BEAR sleeps in the big bed with his foster family and snuggles close through the night. (He had been unable to sleep in the big bed previously because of resource guarding his person, but this has not been a problem in his new home.) ***Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES can BEAR be confined to a kennel. It has made him very aggressive in the past and there is no reason for it. This is very important! If you plan to crate your dog or use a pen, do NOT apply for Bear.*** BEAR has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot and is microchipped with a lifetime registration.
