BEAR is a gorgeous 2-year-old, 14.8 pound Yorkie mix. He has a strong personality and needs the right adopter to be his person! BEAR is a loving, sweet boy who will tell you when he needs his own space. If you pay attention to his cues and you're willing to work with him, he'll be the best friend you ever had! Bear's biggest issue is learning to trust and know that he is in a forever home because he's been bounced around a bit. BEAR is a resource guarder. We had a trainer come and work with him and show us techniques to help with that. The biggest thing he will resource guard is a person (especially men, his favorite people!). He needs a strong leader who understands that working on resource guarding takes time but it can be safely managed and corrected. He's a very confident dog and will do best with a human that sets firm and consistent boundaries. BEAR would be best as an only dog or with a female dog his size. He is intimidated by the bigger dogs and will bark at them. He should not go to a home with kids and he is not good with cats. BEAR will use the dog door and go outside to potty sometimes, but he does still mark. He needs a home with a fenced yard. He is playful and very high energy and likes to do zoomies around the yard. He loves to play with stuffed animals and toys and will hoard them. He cannot be confined without becoming aggressive. This is very important! If you plan to crate your dog or use a pen, do not apply for Bear. Because of his resource guarding BEAR is not allowed to sleep on the bed because he won't let mom share space with his foster dad! He has a really nice dog bed in the other room and he's happy as a lark in his own comfy dog bed. BEAR has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. MORE about BEAR: Bear is the king of his castle. If you tell him he can't do something, he'll get an attitude. Sometimes he'll bark at you and sound like he's going to eat you, but he's typically all noise... as long as you can read his language. Bear also decides when he's ready to get up. If he's not ready when you come to wake him, he will growl at you and just give you 'the look'. Come back an hour later and ask him if he's ready and then he's Mr. Personality! He will be happy and bouncy, jumping up on you and eager to go outside.
