Mack is an almost 7-year-old spaniel mix looking for a loving, patient, and easy-going home to fill with his favorite squeakers and snarky personality. This sweet, fluffy boy was abused and left at a pound before being taken in by a rescue and adopted by me in 2019. It took a while to rebuild trust, and while he's made a lot of progress, he is still on the nervous side. Unfortunately, my husband (who came into the picture after Mack) has past traumatic experiences with dogs, and despite the improvement Mack has made, he is unable to overcome his anxiety. As a result, we've reached the very difficult and heartbreaking decision to re-home Mack. )) In the interest of finding the best home for him, I do want to be upfront with the areas of concern that come along with Mack. - Guarding (food, toys, people, areas) - Sensitive to sudden movement and sounds - Does not do well with grooming or brushing - Stubborn like a toddler - Likes to shred napkins and tissues )He DOES have a bite history, prior to training.( But that's definitely not all there is to Mack! 95% of the time, he's a silly, cuddly, and playful dog. He loves sitting on the back of the couch across my shoulders, going for car rides through a drive-thru, and playing hide-and-seek with toys under a blanket. His eyes are adorably expressive, so don't be surprised if he sends a judgmental side eye if you're 'dancing like nobody's watching.' He's also extremely good at developing a routine. After a few days of consistent timing, he'll be sure to get your attention if you're running late in giving him lunch or taking him on his walk. In May, Mack went through an **intensive board-and-train program** at Lorenzo's Dog Training. Since then, his obedience, anxiety, and aggressive behavior have improved dramatically! He knows sit, stay, heel, down, spot, and here/come, and he sleeps in his kennel overnight. His trainer, Sammy, is offering Mack's new family three training sessions (at no cost) to learn his handling and commands to make sure everyone is set up for success. She's also happy to talk or message with anyone who would like to know more about him. Mack can continue with Lorenzo's monthly in-person group training. We will provide all his gear (collars, leash, beds, kennels, around 10 lbs. of food, toys, and treats). We are asking a $50 rehoming fee and that his new owners to commit to the three training sessions with Sammy. Mack has always been an only dog but enjoys trips to the dog park and play dates with pup pals. He is neutered and fully house-trained, with some experience using a dog door. His rabies vax is valid through February 22, 2025, but his DHPP lapsed in June 2024. He weighs between 23-26 lbs., depending on his fluff level. He is chipped, but it is not active. //// Mack will fit best in a home that: - Has experience with and is comfortable handling an aggressive dog, - Will maintain his training and uphold firm boundaries, - Has no kids, - Has a lifestyle that allows for some consistency and routine, - Is in a quiet area or neighborhood, - Will protect others from 'triggering' aggression. //// I know that Mack has a lot of love to offer his new owner(s). I'm more than happy to answer any questions or share more information with anyone interested in giving him a home for the rest of his fluffy life.
