Courtesy Posting: FRESNO, CA (CENTRAL CAL)- ID #57597483 - FRESNO HUMANE ANIMAL SERVICES - NEEDS LOVING, FOREVER HOME OR FOSTER FOR A RESCUE TO SAVE- 'OBI'- 2YR OLD, 50 LB MALE WHO WAS FOUND AS A STRAY ROAMING FOR A WHILE. CHOW SAVVY REQUESTED. X URGENT -SHELTER ASKING FOR HELP AS THEY ARE A FULL AND ARE APPARENLTLY A KILL SHELTER- WHILE INITIALLY SHY, OBI HAS WARMED UP AND ENJOYS PETS, AND DID FINE WITH SEVERAL DOGS HE WAS TESTED WITH. We are in urgent need of finding a chow savvy home or foster and rescue for this absolutely adorable and sweet purebred looking chow. Unbelievably, and sadly, he appears to have been dumped and he just came off his stray hold. The shelter has thankfully made him adoptable, but would like to see him go to a home with experience with chows, or a breed savvy foster and rescue. Most Rescues need a foster to save him though. According to shelter notes, the 'Dog was reported by the finder after showing up to their property, the finder mentioned that the dog has been around for a week and a half and they noticed that the dog was a little matted and had eye discharge. When I arrived to the property I located the dog in the driveway. He was a little unsure of me at first and didn't want to approach but I offered him some treats which he took from my hand but would move away when I attempted to leash him. I was able to capture him in a dog trap. Upon intake I scanned for a microchip but no chip was found. He allowed me to leash him and vaccinate him but he was very stiff, he did walk well on leash. Dog is fearful so go slow when handling.' While he was shy on intake which is typical of chows, he did allow handling and there are no notes of aggression from the get go. Since then, Obi has continued to show his sweet side, and we have nice video of him enjoying pets on the head and with other dogs we will post. Obi has also been cleared from both medical holding and his stray hold. Per the shelter, 'After further observation, our medical team believes that the irritation and discharge were likely due to his coat and not a medical concern.' We understand the shelter is full, so time is not on his side%BD'%BD| they were already asking for a rescue to step up before his hold was even up. Therefore, if you are chow savvy and can adopt, please contact the shelter directly at (559) 600-7387 and ask for him by ID. If you are interested in fostering, fostering to adopt, or helping Obi in some other way (ie., visiting him, pledging for his rescue, transport, etc), please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement asap, and can try to pair fosters or interested parties with a willing rescue group. Rescue groups may contact the shelter directly by phone or emailing the rescue coordinator at [email protected] .
