Cracker came into Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control because her owner sadly passed away and no next of kin took her in. The owner's neighbor stated that Cracker has only lived with the owner and will need time to adjust to strangers. She may not be good around other pets or children. Cracker is on Fear, Anxiety and Stress meds for fearful behavior. According to the recent clinic Cracker is bright and alert. She ran quickly for her meal with meds in it and there are no apparent signs of FAS seen. Cracker is FIV/FELV NEGATIVE and has been vaccinated and spayed. Our staff was able to pet Cracker's back head. The staff used churu, calm tones, and slow movements. Cracker LOVES churu. One of our kennel staff was cleaning the top of the kennel and Cracker reached out with a paw and caused a tiny puncture wound. Cracker needs help dearly. She is not adjusting well to shelter life. Cracker is people-selective toward our staff and with her age and fearful behaviors she has less chance of being adopted by the public. Cracker lived with her owner most of her life. She will need time and patience to adjust to her new home but with care and kindness Cracker will thrive again in her golden years.
