Abra is a healthy 2.5 year old Heeler mix that came from a rescue. She is a great dog and we are all pretty upset that we are looking to re-home her. She is great with both adults and our two children (12 & 14) in our home but unfortunately she is very unwelcoming to anyone outside our family. She has a very high level of anxiety and we believe a majority of her issues stem from a defensive fear/anxiety and not any sort of actual aggression. Unfortunately given the natural Heeler tendency to interact with their mouth, when that is coupled with some fear based aggression, it becomes a bit too much to handle at times. She has been a great companion for trail hiking, mountain biking and snow shoeing. So long as we are fully aware of our surroundings and do not let her get into situations she should not be in, she is very controllable even off leash. Unfortunately once she gets the idea that she needs to act, it's hard to stop her if she is not on leash. Due to this she only has limited exposure to other people or dogs. Unfortunately we are entering a time of our families lives where we are doing a lot of traveling for sporting events and with a limited number of options for people to watch her, we are worried we may have to put her down if we can't find someone to take on this project. She really is an amazing companion and wants little more than to be by her peoples side. She is the snuggliest dog I have ever had and we are sure that in the right environment and with the right training she can succeed. We unfortunately have proven to not be that home. While she is very happy and we love her very much, she is not learning what she needs to be a successful family dog, but deserves a chance for someone else to get her there.
