Our dog Hobbes is a 14 month old purebred Portuguese water dog weighing 65 pounds (much larger than anticipated). We adopted him 12 months ago from a breeder. He is a very reactive dog, requiring significant training to curb negative behaviors: leash pulling, chasing animals, jumping on guests, nipping/biting when playing, etc. We have 4 children in our house from ages 6 to 12 who are not capable in assisting with training and it has been a struggle for us to devote the necessary time and attention to training out these behaviors. He recently escaped our house and while running away from two of our kids throughout the neighborhood, he bit a woman's hand who attempted to help by grabbing his collar. It was not aggressive but as I said reactive to her grabbing him. It is however concerning that he might do this to one of our kids or our kids' friends. We are continuing to work on training but we recognize we might have to re-home him.
