About Penny

Bulldog / French Bulldog
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Rescued as a stray about one and a half years ago, Penny was a bag of bones, poor skin and teeth, and behaviors suggested had never lived indoors before. She has had litters prior to being found and may have been a neglected breeder. Her nails were so long they cut them during spay past the elongated quicks. Penny does well with other dogs in the home as long as she is the 'queen'. She must receive all of the attention. She could be content sitting somewhere but should another animal, cat, or dog approach her chosen human, she will run to push them out of the way to take over. She will at times give a big harumph warning bark. Her current housemate could care less and attempts to get her into play but a previous potential adopter's dog refused to go near her after his first harumph. Her ability to live with other dogs depends on their personalities and ability to navigate each other around the human guarding Penny will do. She can eat out of a shared bowl and take treats next to any dog. She can cuddle with another dog or two in the bed, couch, or recliner with the humans as long as she is getting skin-to-skin contact and can snuggle with other pups when no humans are around. Penny has come a long way with potty training but will do best on a consistent schedule and routine and a family that will have her by their side when not crated. If she leaves your lap she is most likely getting up to potty. That is your only warning. She makes no other cues and will go in the house. She will not go to the door. She does love her walks though so would prefer a family who will walk her twice a day with an afternoon potty break or two. And a potty break before bed. As long as she is going out at the same time daily she does amazing. Her current home can not offer her this routine or consistency. Penny doesn't know any commands besides 'go potty' which she will do after staring at you for a bit, but she will give you loads of love and happy dances. She wiggles and shakes at you for attention. She has had teeth removed including three of her four canines but eats little bites of dry food just fine. She has also had her elongated pallet and her nares done. If two other dogs get into a fight she will involve herself as well, otherwise, she could care less about anything except her human. She doesn't bark at strangers in the home, doesn't need a leash in the yard once she attaches to her chosen human as she will follow you everywhere, and could care less about small animals or cats.
