Meet Yogi - a true gem and strong example of the Portuguese Water Dog breed. Born on September 27, 2013, Yogi is a senior boy with a heart of gold and a spirit that's just as lively as his younger days. Breed and Pedigree: Purebred Portuguese Water Dog. Yogi boasts a remarkable lineage (series pedigree, alto mare) with brown coloring and a sturdy build, inherited from his parents, Spotty and Steely Dan. Health: Certified free of hip dysplasia in 2013, up to date with vaccinations and microchipped for safety. He has some arthritis that limits his ability to jump into high spaces but doesn't slow down his love for life. His sight and hearing are consistent with his age, meaning he can see and hear, just not as well as his younger self. Personality & Habits: Yogi is a loyal and loving companion, always curious about what you're up to and happiest when he's close to his people. He'll follow you around the house, sit at your feet as you work or watch TV, and even hide his head in your lap for comfort. Favorite Activities: -Hanging out with his humans -Walks in any environment, though nature and beaches are his favorite. -Being brushed and pampered. He loves the groomer! -Spending time in the water, even if it's a puddle - though he takes a little time to build up his swimming confidence. Temperament: -Submissive and gets along well with dominant dogs (he currently lives harmoniously with a bossy little dog). -Can be overly affectionate with submissive dogs, sometimes licking or humping them for a little too long. -Has brief door aggression that's easily managed with a gate and treats. -Received substantial obedience training as a young dog - we have all the paperwork with the commands Care Needs: -Routine & Structure: Yogi thrives with consistency in his day-to-day life. -Alone Time: He's fine for up to 7-8 hours without humans, but prefers frequent potty breaks now that he's older. He's only lived with another dog, so we're unsure what he's like without a companion. -Self-Soothing: When anxious, he'll adorably rub himself against plants, curtains, or jackets, or head to his food bowl for comfort. The Ideal Home for Yogi: Yogi would love a home with someone who appreciates his senior charms and has time for his daily walks and cuddles. A family with a calm, dominant dog(s) could be a great fit, as he's responsive to canine leadership. His new home should have patience for his quirks and door manners, along with plenty of love to share. Like most dogs, he'll need time to adjust to a new home and will reward you with loving companionship.
