Sunny is a sweet gentle giant who has a not so sunny backstory however she is healing with love and care and will soon be ready to look for her forever family. Sunny was dumped at a reservoir shortly after Christmas. She was nursing her young as her teats were clearly enlarged but her puppies were not with her. Sunny was dumped alone. She stayed near the entrance gates for the next few days eluding capture, checking each arriving car for her family. It took us several hours to gain her trust but she eventually came to us and allowed us to leash and walk her. Sunny has only been with us a few days. I will update this post as we learn more about her. She was scanned today and found not to be chipped. Given these circumstances her hold through the shelter (while she lives with us) will only be 5 days and then she will be available for adoption. She is inquisitive and smart. She is shy at first but warms up very quickly especially if you have a treat. She is gentle with my young son and has not jumped on him or been physically dominant with him. She studies our faces and tries to figure out what we are asking her. She knows several commands including sit and lay down. We are teaching her others. She is highly treat motivated. She does not seem to like crates. She is happy on her dog bed and also believes she is a lap dog. She has found her way onto our bed several times but once verbally corrected she quickly got down. On Day 2 with us I took her on a 3 mile run and it seemed like a minimal effort for her. Again no pulling and she tries to figure out where to run and matched our pace. Her general demeanor so far is that of a couch potato indoors. Very calm and quiet and gentle. If I did not have two female boxers and a free range rabbit I would keep Sunny as part of my own family. We are all very fond of her already but we want Sunny to have her own loving family.
