About Cub

Adoption Fee: $75
Havanese
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Hi, I'm Cub. I'm a 'Golden Sable' (aka cream) colored Havanese weighing about 22lbs. I have hair instead of fur, so I'm considered hypoallergenic, and you can cut my hair in all sorts of styles! Shorter is best to keep me clean, but you can grow my hair longer if you prefer, and I've even had fun cuts like mohawks! I get groomed & trimmed every 6-8wks. If you're not familiar with my breed, we are normally smaller dogs, and we were originally bred to be the national dog of Cuba! We are good ratters, and also have some 'herding' tendencies. I am true to the typical Havanese temperaments: Affectionate, Playful, Intelligent, Responsive, Gentle, Companionable. I'm a very sweet boy, and although I'm 12yo, I am in good health and my vet says I have plenty of years ahead of me. I came to my current family in Feb 2020, right at the start of the pandemic! It was perfect because both mom & dad were working from home, and I could have their attention 24/7. From the day I moved in, I loved to sleep on the foot of their bed, lay next to them while they worked during the day, and go on short walks around the neighborhood. I get along just fine with my 3 sister cats, although they pretty much ignore me. I don't like dogs that are bigger than me, and I have to be leashed on walks so I don't chase or bark at big dogs, dear, or squirrels. I'm ok with smaller dogs, as long as they don't bring their puppy energy and try to jump all over me. My people did recently add a tiny human to our house, and he's ok. I don't mind babies, but I am a little jealous of the time my parents spend with him. And sadly, my mom lost her job last year, and her new job is in a different state, and she won't be home all the time. My family is moving very soon, and the changes make me nervous. I'm Austin born & raised, and I would like to stay here in Texas. My ideal family would be humans who are home all day and want me to be by their side 24/7! I would prefer to be an only-dog, but I could probably handle smaller doggie siblings. I promise I'll try not to chase any cat-friends, unless they misbehave, then I feel the need to jump in. Besides my regular hair cuts, I go to the vet to have my anal glands expressed, although you can do this at home if you prefer (I know, gross!), and I have been known to get ear or eye infections if the hair on my face is not taken care of (the shorter hair helps, otherwise I need help with brushing/cleaning!) It helps if you clean my ears regularly, too. I am up to date on all vaccines. I have had 2 surgeries in the past, on both my rear knees. I got too excited chasing hawks flying in my back yard, and tore my CCLs. The good news is, after the TPLO procedure, my knees are now better than ever, and we don't have to worry about a future tear, as my knees now operate more like humans! Other than that, I've been known to have seasonal allergies, and sometimes I lick my paws alot if I'm lonely or nervous. Would you like to be my new family to get me all the love and attention I deserve? Sloppy doggie kisses, Cub PS- I come with a kennel, car seat, pet stroller, beds, leashes, harness, doggie bowls, a few bags of food, and solution to clean out my ears!
