Sandy, tenderly nicknamed 'Maisie' arrived from Texas back in September. She's 55lbs and best guess is black mouth cur mix and about 2 years old. Maisie's life has not been easy - she arrived at the shelter with 3 other dogs when her owner became incarcerated. Her siblings were not lucky enough to make it out of the shelter. Maisie hadn't given up hope and become a playgroup rockstar helping save her life and luckily making it out and headed to Illinois with a loving foster family. Maisie came north weary of new experiences and men no doubt because of the life she had led prior to rescue. Due to her amazing foster family - Maisie has started to blossom! She has learned basic commands 'sit', 'leave it', 'touch' & 'come.' She is crate trained and needs consistency to continue to build trust and to help her predict situations to make her feel safe. Maisie lives with adults and other dogs in her foster family. She thrives with routine, loving praise and another dog to match her energy! She adores the dog park and long walks to burn off her energy. She will need a fenced yard to contain her especially a tall one since this she is very athletic and loves to run! She would do best with other dogs in the home to help show her the ropes and give her a comfortable friend to play with! Maisie is especially drawn to children at our adoption events and comes every weekend in hopes of catching someone's eye. She loves to give them affection and would do well with an active family in her forever home. Maisie bonds with the people she can trust and needs a special family to give her a chance to continue to grow in her confidence and appreciate kindness and love. She would thrive with an active family of people, kids and other dogs. It will take her some time to adjust to a change but she will reward her family in unconditional love! We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.
