About Lumi

Adoption Fee: $150
American Staffordshire Terrier / American Bulldog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Lumi is a medium energy goofball with big muscles and squishy cheeks. He is very snuggly and thinks he is a lap dog. He is very sweet and patient with my 2 year old but he would probably be a better fit for older kids or no kids because of his size. He can be a little bit mouthy (like a puppy) when he is excited or wants to play, but if you give him a toy to hold in his mouth that helps with it. Young children do not understand how to do that so that's why he would be better with older humans. He would love to be your jogging partner and has done pretty well the few times I have taken him jogging. Once you let him sniff and potty a little he does not get distracted or stop much and seems to really enjoy it. He also has 'big scary looking dog' privilege (70lbs), so if you are a person who hikes or jogs alone you will definitely be left alone. He has pretty good stamina but is not super crazy energetic and would probably be fine with a longer walk or jogging session every other day and doesn't seem to need every single day if you don't have time. He is crate trained and not destructive as long as he has his own toys to chew on. He has mastered sit and we are working on down, stay, wait, touch, and his leash manners. He is not a jumpy dog. He is very food motivated and eager to please which makes training easy. His only flaw is that he was never taught how to meet dogs properly and he gets overstimulated when he sees them on his leash. We have been working with a dog trainer and he has already improved but he needs someone who can continue to work with him on his leash manners so that it does not get worse and turn into more reactive behavior. He was going to be euthanized for space at the shelter so I adopted him, but after getting to know him, he's not the right fit for my toddler. He is very loving and loyal and will make someone an amazing companion. The shelter said he did well with other dogs in play group but I have not tried to introduce him to any other dogs and due to his leash manners I believe he would require proper/slow introductions. He will come with a kong toy, a ball he hasn't figured out how to destroy, a bed (not the crate), collar/leash/harness, and the rest of his food I've had him on. If you have other questions let me know.
