12/27/24 Sophie is a gorgeous and sweet girl in need of rescue or a new home. She has been with her owner for about a week and is unable to be returned. Her owner is working very hard with Sophie, but wasn't told everything, and due to her schedule and career, is unable to give her the time and attention she needs. Name: Sophie Age: 3 - 5 years (estimated) Breed: Petite Shepherd mix (36 pounds, should be about 45 pounds) Sex: Female (currently not spayed; however owner will pay for spay) Location: Middlesex County, MA Vet Info: Sophie is current with vaccines and heartworm negative. Her owner also gave us more information about Sophie's vision: 'She was most likely born with visual impairment, her eyes are slightly smaller than normal and she has a cataract in each eye....She is completely healthy with the exception of her eye condition...Sophie has been to the ophthalmologist, and she is a candidate for cataract surgery.' They are currently raising funds for her cataract surgery once she is adopted. Dog Info: Sophie is housebroken, leash trained and smart. She knows several commands including, Sit, Wait, Let's Go Outside, Heal and Potty. Sophie is a friendly girl and loves people! She is good with people of all ages, but a home without young children is recommended as she may jump and knock over a young child. She is not possessive of toys, treats, or food. Sophie's owner also recommends a home without other dogs and tells us Sophie currently has her own room, separated from the two other dogs in the home, because her vision impairment makes her feel vulnerable around them, and she proactively tries to discourage them from approaching. But she also wants us to know how good Sophie is with people! 'That being said, Sophie is an absolute sweetheart! She loves people and craves affection, preferring it over toys and food. She just wants to be by your side throughout the day, walking with you or sitting next to you while you work from home, watch TV and more. She is so loving and her tail doesn't stop wagging, and she will shower you with kisses! Sophie is very smart as well--sitting before you feed her, waiting until you say ok before she walks through the door. She likes to go for car rides, too, but you have to pick her up to put her into the car as she can't see where she's jumping in. She is friendly to all people, young and old, but since she jumps a bit when excited, is best with children 8 and up. My neighbor's son is 6 years-old and she was great with him, but did jump a bit trying to hug and lick him. Fortunately, that did not deter him!... I think she'd thrive in a home with no dogs, or with only one calm dog. Slow introductions are needed.' Please email [email protected] if you are interested in Sophie. Please know we will ask for a vet reference. **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners are unable to keep them.
