Hello all. I must rehome my 10 month old female fawn Great Dane. She is up to date on shots and she is microchipped. She is NOT spayed as it is best to wait until she has had the first one or two heat cycles so that she gets adequate hormones. She has not gone into heat yet. Reason for rehoming: I simply do not have the time to care for her as I originally thought I did. I work 12 hour overnight shifts and can no longer find consistent help to come and walk her throughout the night. It honestly breaks my heart to rehome her but it is the best thing to do for her. I have tried to make it work since she was 8 weeks old when I brought her home. Temperament: She is so sweet and playful. She loves to cuddle, run, and play. She gets along well with other dogs. She has not been around a cat. She has been around my small nephew with no issues, but she is a large dog and thinks she is a lap dog. Please keep this in mind. Training/Housebroken: 1)She mostly knows sit and stay, but needs more work to make it a constant on command. 2)I am working with a prong collar to improve her behavior (pulling) on walks. She has been manageable for me on a harness, but I am a large man and have heard from others she can be difficult to handle for them. 3)She is housebroken for the most part. She can go 4-6 hours during the day fairly consistently without having an accident in the house. She will not use the bathroom at all during the night and sleeps through the night. The issues with using the bathroom in the house have mainly been due to when I cannot find someone to let her out at night while I work. 4)She is NOT crate trained. She does have a very large heavy duty crate that I paid nearly $300 for. I could never get her to get used to being in it because she will whine in the crate and my neighbors complained so I honestly gave up. Optimal Home Wishes: 1)She would do best in a home with another larger, younger dog that she can play with. She has been with another dog since she was born. 2)I do let her on the couch with me and she does sleep in the bed with me. I'm sure you could train her otherwise, but this is what she is used to. 3)A large yard for her to play in. She needs space to run and tire her self out. Thank you for reading this far. I am trying my absolute best to find the best, most optimal forever home for her. If you feel like you are a good fit please reach out.
